Verizon has invested in Las Vegas, collaborating with the National Football League (NFL) and bringing new technology and connectivity to the valley. The Super Bowl is coming to Allegiant Stadium with more than 65,000 fans on-site and millions watching the Big Game on other platforms and broadcast television, sharing the highs and lows through social media, texts and even phone calls.
The Big Game is one of several significant events coming to the valley in the coming year.
Verizon is working to bring the best experience for locals and tourists.
Kyle Malady, the CEO of Verizon Business, spoke with Jennifer Stehlin, special correspondent for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, about Verizon’s major role as the NFL’s key technology partner.
“Las Vegas is an interesting place with a steady population. Big events are being held, and attendance can grow to about 100,000. That presents a unique challenge when building wireless networks because you have to have enough capacity so that when 100,000 or more people do visit, you can support their services as well as the folks who live and work in Las Vegas,” Malady said.
“When attending concerts and sporting events, you might take a picture and want to share it with your kids or your friends. So, what we’ve done is we’ve put in a ton of capacity so that our customers will be able to leverage that capacity and share content in real time.”
As the NFL’s Official 5G Partner, Verizon is working to expand its technology on the field as well.
“We support the NFL’s coach-to-coach communications. So, anytime a coach talks to another coach and figures out what plays to make happen on the field, that communication link is Verizon. This is actually the first time the technology will be live during the Super Bowl. Verizon was chosen because of the reliability that we bring to our customers every day, which is also critical during a game. We want to ensure a seamless experience and a fair playing field for everybody,” he said.
Verizon planned two years in advance and worked with local partners to ensure they bring the best of the best.
“The Super Bowl is a great American event and Verizon technology ensures people can see and enjoy it, allowing people to communicate with each other and express their joy, and that’s what we’re all about,” Malady said.
Verizon, like the NFL, has an end game.
“When we go to Super Bowl towns and make these upgrades, they stay. So, the network is even better than it might have been before because of the extra capacity. Our customers can be assured that they will have reliable communications. We bring the latest in technology, and we leave that there for the benefit of the city.”
